Before the Penguin of Plaza-Midwood, there was a Penguin on E. 4th St (near the intersection of Torrence Ave--near the American Billards store). This Penguin existed in the early-'40's for a very, very short time and featured curb service and all of the traditional drive-in fare. It doesn't appear to be related to the Penguin of Commonwealth Ave (and was open a decade earlier) but the ad has a nice look---plus they were one of the few car hops that featured "dancing".
