From February 1983 came news of the "restaurant of the future". Space Stations was to include "Space Cadet" servers in space-themed outfits, robots serving drinks, and a "Refuse Robot" trash can that said "thank you" when used. Alas, the concept never came to be and Charlotte was left wondering what dining in the future would really be like...

It reminds me of Pizza Planet in Toy Story. It would have been cool in a dorky kinda way. I had friends in high school who would have died to work there.
ReplyDeleteThanks!
I don't think I know anyone that would have wanted to volunteer to be a "Space Cadet". The abuse would have been non-stop.
ReplyDeleteSpace Station Earth did open, but didn't last long. It was on Central Avenue close to Kilborne I think
ReplyDeleteit was on the corner of central and rosehaven - didn't last long
ReplyDeleteI remember that place! Crazy cool concept, but man, did the food suck !!
ReplyDeleteFrom a long-time east-Charlottean, this brings back some cool memories!
