House of Hunan

From 1980 comes this nice look at the then-popular House of Hunan restaurant on Woodlawn Rd. Open until about ten years ago, it would also feature a short-lived location at Cotswold Mall in the late-80's as well as the area's first offering of Mongolian Barbecue. Great peek into the dining room as well!

  1. House of Hunan brings back so many great childhood memories as my father would drive our family from Rockingham, NC on a Saturday, usually once a month to spend the day in Charlotte. Our trips usually included either Eastland Mall or Southpark and would often culminate in dinner at one of many great chinese restaurants that Charlotte had to offer at that time. At the top of the list was House of Hunan and over the years, we visited the Cotswold location, dozens of times. The food was absolutely incredible and magical, rivaling the restaurants found in the mecca for chinese food in this country at that time, New York City. Some particular favorites were, Hot and Sour soup and spicy Shredded Beef, both of which were the best I’ve ever had and I don’t say this lightly as our family’s number one dining out choice was Chinese cuisine, so I have countless experiences at countless Chinese restaurants around the world and I consider myself somewhat of an expert in Chinese cuisine. There were so many great memories with our family and a huge heart break when they eventually closed.

  2. Have been searching for a dish similar to HoH's chicken kon pao for 30 years. The best I've ever had. Perfection. So many wonderful meals there.
